Against the Machine: A Single Mother's Desperate Fight for Justice and the Dashcam That Proved It All

Chapter 26: The Smoking Gun

The courtroom erupted. Reporters were shouting into their phones. The judge banged his gavel so hard the handle cracked.

"Order! Order in this court!" Judge Halloway screamed, his face turning purple.

Silas Vane stood up, his composure finally cracking. "This is a farce! That recording is a fabrication!"

"We're done with fabrications, Silas," Marcus said, his voice cutting through the noise. "Your Honor, I would like to introduce one final piece of evidence. The dashcam video recovered from Ms. Rossi’s vehicle."

"Objection! Chain of custody!" Silas roared.

"Overruled," the Judge snapped, glaring at Silas. "Play it."

The screens in the jury box flickered to life. They saw the rain. They saw the truck driver, Big Mike, looking at the tablet.

Then, the zoom. The text message filled the screens, clear as day.

FROM: SVANE_ADMIN MESSAGE: LOAD IS LATE. DELIVER BY 9 PM OR YOU'RE FIRED. NO EXCUSES.

Every head in the courtroom turned to look at Silas Vane. The blood drained from his face. He looked at the side exit. He took a step toward it.

"Bailiff!" The Judge pointed a shaking finger at Silas. "Do not let that man leave this room."
