Against the Machine: A Single Mother's Desperate Fight for Justice and the Dashcam That Proved It All
Chapter 20: The Corporate Structure
Marcus replayed the video ten times. He paused it at the exact second the notification appeared on the tablet. He zoomed in.
The text message was readable.
FROM: DISPATCH (OVERRIDE) MESSAGE: LOAD IS LATE. DELIVER BY 9 PM OR YOU'RE FIRED. NO EXCUSES.
Marcus sat back, steepling his fingers. This changed everything.
In a standard accident case, the company claims the driver was rogue—that he violated policy by texting or speeding. They throw the driver under the bus to save the corporation. But this text came from "Dispatch Override." That was a command channel used by management.
This wasn't driver negligence. This was a corporate directive that forced the driver to choose between safety and his livelihood.
"Piercing the corporate veil," Marcus muttered. If he could prove that management forced the unsafe driving, the liability cap on the insurance policy didn't apply. The company's personal assets were in play.
He needed to know who sent that text. "Dispatch" was generic. But "Override" meant someone with executive privileges.
He cross-referenced the timestamp with the discovery logs—the few they had. He found the login ID associated with the override command.

Marcus froze. Silas Vane wasn't just the external counsel. He was a corporate officer. He had sent the threat himself.
"Got you," Marcus smiled. "It’s not just a lawsuit anymore, Silas. It’s a conspiracy."
