They Covered Up My Botched Surgery, Now I Am Bankrupting Their Entire Hospital System
Chapter 7: The Hush Money
Elena’s stomach violently dropped. She stared intensely at the man in the dark suit as he calmly walked up her driveway, bypassing her front door entirely and heading straight for her side patio.
She quickly double-checked the locks on her doors, her trembling fingers fumbling with the brass deadbolts. Whoever this corporate operative was, he wasn't here to deliver a friendly legal warning. He was a highly paid corporate cleaner.
A sharp, authoritative knock loudly echoed from her reinforced glass patio door. The man confidently held up a sleek, silver briefcase, his stoic face brightly illuminated by the sudden glare of her motion-sensor security lights.
"Ms. Vance, my name is Silas. I strictly represent Dr. Sterling's private financial interests," the man called out, his voice smooth and unnervingly calm through the thick glass. "We’d highly prefer to bypass the messy litigation and initiate an immediate out-of-court settlement negotiation."
Elena didn't dare open the sliding door. She quickly hit the video record button on her smartphone, carefully angling the camera to capture Silas's face and the imposing briefcase he carried.
"I have absolutely nothing to discuss with your corrupt hospital," Elena shouted back, her voice projecting a fierce, false bravado. "Speak directly to my retained legal counsel. You are illegally trespassing."
Silas simply smiled, a cold, terrifyingly reptilian curving of his thin lips. He slowly unlatched the heavy silver briefcase and pressed it flat against the glass door. It was packed incredibly tightly with stacks of flawless hundred-dollar bills.
"This is a one-time offer of five million dollars in cash," Silas stated smoothly, tapping a heavy gold ring against the glass. "It completely covers your exorbitant lifelong surgery costs and your permanent physical pain and suffering."
He pulled a thick legal document from his breast pocket and pressed it against the window. "Sign this ironclad Non-Disclosure Agreement right now, drop the federal lawsuit, and enjoy your wealthy new life. Otherwise, a helpless paralyzed woman living all alone might just suffer a second, fatal tragic accident."
