They Covered Up My Botched Surgery, Now I Am Bankrupting Their Entire Hospital System

Chapter 12: Broken Trust

Elena immediately rolled her wheelchair backward, unable to stomach the sight of Dr. Aris sitting calmly alongside the hospital's aggressive corporate defense team. The betrayal was incredibly sharp and deeply physical.

As soon as the judge called for a brief fifteen-minute recess, Elena aggressively chased Dr. Aris out into the echoing, marble-floored courthouse hallway. She cornered him near the elevators, her eyes blazing with absolute fury.

"How could you possibly do this?" Elena demanded, her voice cracking as the sheer magnitude of his betrayal washed over her. "You held my hand when I woke up paralyzed. You swore to me you would help me find out the truth!"

"Elena, please lower your voice," Dr. Aris pleaded, his face entirely pale and slick with nervous sweat. "I am absolutely begging you to understand my impossible position. This is a severe, actionable breach of fiduciary duty, and if the medical board finds out, my career is completely over."

"Then why are you testifying against my catastrophic personal injury claim?" Marcus interrupted, stepping out of the shadows with his arms crossed tightly over his chest. "You are deliberately sabotaging a massive, highly valid patient compensation lawsuit."

Dr. Aris violently rubbed his trembling hands over his face, looking completely broken and utterly terrified. He wasn't acting like a wealthy, paid-off corporate shill; he was acting like a hostage.

"You don't understand the sheer, terrifying power of the hospital's commercial medical liability coverage provider," Dr. Aris whispered, violently checking over his shoulder to ensure the slick defense lawyers weren't listening. "They aggressively monitor everything we do."

He leaned down, placing a shaking hand gently on the armrest of Elena's wheelchair. Tears welled up in the older doctor's tired eyes.

"I didn't want to lie under oath, Elena, I swear to God I didn't," Dr. Aris choked out, his voice dropping to a terrified, desperate whisper. "But the hospital's insurance carrier explicitly threatened to absolutely destroy my family if I didn't completely comply."
