They Poisoned My Father, So I Bankrupted Their Billion-Dollar Empire

Chapter 8: The Meeting

They met at a truck stop diner fifty miles west, a place smelling of diesel and burnt coffee.

Jack slid into the booth. Across from him sat Elena Vance. She looked even sharper in person—jet black bob cut, a tailored power suit that cost more than Jack’s truck, and designer glasses that hid calculating eyes.

She didn't say hello. She just extended a hand. "Show me."

Jack placed the journal on the table. Elena put on latex gloves before touching it. She flipped to the page with the chemical formulas. Her eyes widened slightly—the only crack in her armor.

"Do you know what this is?" she whispered.

"Proof they knew the insulation was toxic," Jack said.

"It's more than that," Elena corrected, tapping a specific entry. "This is evidence of a cover-up involving bribed safety inspectors. This isn't just a personal injury lawsuit, Jack. This is a RICO case. Racketeering. Conspiracy."

"Can we win?"

"We can destroy them," Elena said, a predatory smile forming. "But litigation against OmniCore is war. They will dig up every parking ticket you've ever had. They will destroy your credit score. They will ruin your name."

"They're already letting my mom die," Jack said. "I don't have anything else to lose."

"Good," Elena said. "Because the journal isn't enough."
