They Poisoned My Father, So I Bankrupted Their Billion-Dollar Empire

Chapter 15: The Deposition

The conference room was air-conditioned to the point of freezing. Jack sat at a mahogany table, a video camera pointed at his face.

Opposite him sat three lawyers from OmniCore. They wore suits that cost more than Jack’s house.

"Mr. Miller," the lead counsel, a shark-faced man named Sterling, began. "Let's discuss your father's... lifestyle. Was he a heavy drinker?"

"He had a beer after work," Jack said through gritted teeth.

"Objection," Elena said from beside him. "Relevance?"

"It goes to credibility and pre-existing health conditions," Sterling smirked. "Isn't it true, Mr. Miller, that your father was often intoxicated on the job? That he hallucinated safety hazards? That he was reprimanded for incompetence?"

"He was the best foreman you had!" Jack snapped.

"And yet," Sterling slid a document across the table. "Here is a disciplinary report from 1996 citing him for 'erratic behavior.' Perhaps the journal is just the ramblings of a drunkard?"

Jack slammed his fist on the table. "You poisoned him and now you're spitting on his grave! He drank to forget the pain you caused!"

Sterling smiled, looking directly into the camera. "Let the record show the witness is hostile and unstable. Outburst noted."
