They Poisoned My Father, So I Bankrupted Their Billion-Dollar Empire

Chapter 23: The Rejection

Jack stood up. The chair scraped loudly against the floor.

"My dad didn't die for an annuity," Jack said. "He died because you were too cheap to buy filters."

He took the settlement offer, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it into the center of the table.

"We'll see you in court," Jack said.

The lead lawyer’s face hardened. He turned to Elena. "Ms. Vance, you have a fiduciary duty to advise your client to accept a reasonable offer. If you pursue this frivolous litigation, we will counter-sue for legal fees. We will bury you in paperwork."

"I'm not afraid of paperwork," Elena said, standing up to join Jack. "And neither is he."

As they reached the door, the lawyer slammed his hand on the table.

"Thorne will ruin you!" he shouted, his composure cracking. "He'll have you disbarred! You'll be working at a coffee shop by next month!"

Elena paused, hand on the doorknob. She looked back over her shoulder, her eyes flashing behind her designer glasses.

"I prefer tea," she said.
