They Poisoned My Father, So I Bankrupted Their Billion-Dollar Empire
Chapter 10: The Nursing Home
The Shady Pines Care Facility was a place where people went to be forgotten. The smell of bleach and boiled cabbage hung heavy in the hallway.
Jack and Elena found Room 304. The door was open. inside, a frail old man sat in a wheelchair, staring blankly at a static-filled TV.
"Silas?" Jack asked gently. "I'm Tom Miller’s son."
The old man flinched. He looked at Jack, and for a second, recognition flashed in his milky eyes. Then, terror took over.
"No," Silas wheezed, shaking his head. "Go away."
"We know about Sector 4," Elena said, stepping forward. "We know OmniCore paid you to stay quiet. But Tom is dead, Silas. And Jack's mom is next."
"They pay for this room," Silas whispered, gripping the armrests. "They pay for my meds. If I talk..."
"If you talk, we can protect you," Elena promised. "We can get you into a better facility. Federal protection."
Silas laughed, a dry, rattling sound. He pulled down the collar of his shirt. A fresh bruise bloomed purple across his collarbone.
"You can't protect me," Silas trembled. "Their guys were here this morning. They said if I say a word to anyone... they'll pay a visit to my grandkids."
