The 50-Million Dollar Loophole: How One Widow Broke the Bank
Chapter 9: Blocked Justice
"Zero dollars?" Eleanor whispered, staring at the screen in horror. "My pension, my savings... it's all gone."
Julian's eyes darkened. "Sterling didn't just freeze your assets. He executed a retaliatory bank transfer sweep to starve you out. It's totally illegal."
They left the pharmacy without the medication and raced directly to the county courthouse. Julian needed to file an immediate title insurance dispute and a restraining order against Apex Financial.
The courthouse was a labyrinth of bureaucratic red tape. Julian pushed past the crowds, leveraging his old aggressive lawyer persona to cut the line at the emergency filing clerk's window.
He slammed the hastily drafted injunction paperwork onto the counter. "I need an immediate judicial review for an illegal asset freezing injunction. Life or death."
The tired clerk sighed, adjusting her glasses, and began typing the case details into her archaic computer terminal. The keyboard clacked loudly in the tense silence.
Suddenly, the screen flashed a brilliant, flashing red error message. The clerk frowned and typed the filing number again. The same error appeared.
She clicked her mouse rapidly, digging deeper into the system's backend to authorize the corporate litigation documents. She stopped cold.
She looked up at Julian, her face pale, and slid the paperwork back across the counter with shaking hands.
The judge's clerk informs them their filing was blocked by an unknown VIP.
