The 50-Million Dollar Loophole: How One Widow Broke the Bank
Chapter 8: Frozen Funds
The heavy iron crowbar glinted menacingly in the afternoon sun. Julian didn't take a single step back.
"Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon," Julian said, his voice devoid of fear. "Coupled with an illegal asset freezing injunction and criminal trespass. You swing that, you die in prison."
The contractor hesitated. Julian pulled out his phone, already dialing 911. The foreman cursed, realizing the corporate lawyer wasn't bluffing. He whistled sharply, and the crew backed off, throwing their tools into the van.
As the van sped away, Julian let out a shaky breath. "They're trying to terrorize you into leaving voluntarily. We need to lock this place down."
The adrenaline crash hit Eleanor hard. She was shaking violently. "Julian, I need my blood pressure medication. We have to go to the pharmacy."
Julian nodded, helping her back into the car. They drove to the local drugstore. Eleanor walked up to the counter and handed the pharmacist her debit card to cover the medical prescriptions.
The pharmacist swiped the card. The machine beeped an angry red. He frowned and tried inserting the chip. Another harsh beep.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Vance," the pharmacist said sympathetically. "It says the transaction is denied by your financial institution."
Eleanor felt the blood drain from her face. She pulled out her phone and opened her banking app, her fingers trembling over the screen. The balance flashed on the display.
Eleanor’s bank accounts are suddenly frozen; her card declines at the grocery store.
