The 50-Million Dollar Loophole: How One Widow Broke the Bank
Chapter 19: The Wrong Documents
Fine white dust rained down from the cellar ceiling, coating Julian and Eleanor in the darkness. The brutal screech of industrial drill bits biting into solid steel was deafening.
Eleanor gripped her son's arm tightly. Julian could only listen helplessly as the corporate thugs destroyed the last remnants of his father's legacy.
He mentally prepared to file a massive property theft attorney lawsuit, but he knew civil court was useless if Sterling acquired the original documents.
A loud, heavy metallic clang echoed through the house as the safe's locking mechanism finally gave way. Coarse cheering erupted from the men upstairs.
"Got the financial settlement papers!" a gruff voice yelled through the floorboards. "Let's move before the neighbors call the cops!"
Heavy boots thundered down the hallway and out the shattered front door. Tires squealed on the wet asphalt as the van sped away into the night, carrying the prize.
Julian slumped against the damp cellar wall, running a trembling hand through his hair. The corporate litigation defense was officially dead.
"They have the deed," Julian whispered, the fight completely draining from his voice. "Sterling won. He owns the land now."
Eleanor didn't cry. Instead, she brushed the drywall dust from her vintage cardigan and let out a soft, surprisingly cunning laugh. She looked up at her son with a sharp glint in her eye.
Eleanor reveals the real, original deed is hidden inside a bank safety deposit box.
